Properties
Description
Biotin-PEG6-Mal is a maleimide biotinylation linker designed to react specifically with sulfhydryl groups (at pH 6.5-7.5) to form stable thioether linkages. The inclusion of a hydrophilic PEG spacer enhances the aqueous solubility of molecules conjugated to the biotin compound while reducing steric hindrance during binding to avidin molecules.

C31H51N5O11S
Functional Group 1
Biotin
Functional Group 2
Maleimide
Reactive Group 1
Sulfhydryl
Form
Solid (low melting point)

Confirmed by NMR.
Applications
Biotin-PEG6-Mal finds widespread application in the site-specific labeling of sulfhydryl-containing biomolecules such as proteins, peptides, and antibodies. The conjugation of biotin enables subsequent detection, purification, or immobilization of the labeled biomolecules using streptavidin-based assays, including Western blotting, ELISA, and immunoprecipitation.
