Desthiobiotin is a sulfur-free analog of biotin, featuring a single-ring structure. It exhibits nearly equal specificity but lower affinity for streptavidin compared to biotin. As a result, desthiobiotinylated proteins can be efficiently eluted from streptavidin affinity resin under mild conditions via- competitive displacement with free biotin.
